How to get here

By Air/Rail

There are daily flights from Gatwick, Heathrow and many others to Porto (or Oporto as some airlines like to call it) , Lisbon and Faro. See the links page for companies that fly to Portugal

From Porto and Lisbon you can take a luxury train ride to Coimbra (pronounced Queembra). Treat yourself, go first class on an Alpha Pendula tilting train for around £10pp. From Faro you can take a train to Lisbon, then change for Coimbra

You can hire a car or a taxi in Coimbra or take the local train to Serpins and a taxi to your property.

By Sea/Car.

Well you could take the long way round via Dover, Calais and drive through France & Spain but we’re quite sure you’d prefer to take a cruise on the luxury ferries that shuttle between Portsmouth and Bilbao (P&O, 36 hours) or Plymouth and Santander (Brittany Ferries, from 18 hours).

P&O offer season tickets for frequent travellers and Brittany Ferries have special rates for property owners abroad.

See http://www.poportsmouth.com/SeasonTickets/ticketsinformation.htm and http://www.brittanyferries.co.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1

It presently takes about 9 hours to drive to the Portuguese mountains, however, a superb motorway is under construction which will shortly cut journey times significantly. It is also possible to take a train from Santander or Bilbao to Coimbra. The current minimum journey time is 16hr 13 min.
